ISLAMABAD: Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma has achieved a career milestone by becoming the ICC’s No.1-ranked ODI batter for the first time.

The 39-year-old, known for his consistency and match-winning performances, has been rewarded for his stellar performances in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia.

Rohit’s Career Milestone

In the three-match series against Australia, Rohit scored 8, 73, and an unbeaten 121*, helping India secure a series victory.

His performance took him to the ninth spot on the all-time ODI run-scoring charts, with over 11,370 runs to his name.

Rohit’s climb to No.1 in the ICC ODI rankings, from No.3, reflects the immense value of his contributions to Indian cricket over the years.

Remarkably, this is the first time that Rohit has held the No.1 spot in the ICC ODI rankings, despite having been a prominent figure in international cricket for over 18 years.

Since making his debut against Ireland in 2007, this is a historic achievement for the Mumbai-born batsman.

His current ranking of 781 points has moved him ahead of Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran (764) and India’s Shubman Gill (745), who now occupy second and third positions respectively.

Rohit’s Journey in the ICC Rankings

Although his current rating is 781, it is far below his career-best rating of 882 points, which he achieved in July 2019.

During that period, Rohit’s rating consistently remained above 800, with his highest rank being No.2 behind teammate Virat Kohli (889).

However, Kohli’s recent slump, including a series of ducks in the Australia ODIs, has caused him to drop out of the top five in the rankings.
