MUMBAI, India: Former India captain Rohit Sharma, who guided the Men in Blue to their second ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title in 2024, has been appointed as the official ambassador for the 2026 edition of the global tournament, to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Rohit, who first lifted the T20 World Cup trophy as a young player in 2007 before captaining India to glory 17 years later, said he was honoured to take on the ambassadorial role.
“It is great to have the tournament back in India, and to be associated with it once again in a new capacity as Brand Ambassador,” he remarked.
He added that he hopes players and fans “enjoy India’s hospitality and take home unforgettable memories.”
A giant of the T20 format, Rohit has scored 4,231 T20I runs at an average of 32.01 and a strike rate of 140.89, making him one of the most accomplished batters in the format’s history.
His unbeaten 88-run tally in the 2007 edition and his dominant 257-run campaign in 2024 remain standout chapters of his career.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will take place from February 7 to March 8 across venues in India and Sri Lanka, marking Rohit’s continued connection with an event that has defined key milestones in his cricketing journey.
