ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will conduct a roadshow in Bangkok on Monday to attract investment for the 300-megawatt floating solar plants project to be implemented at the Tarbela-Barotha Complex sites.

Under the project, Islamabad aims to develop two 150-MW AC floating solar plants, Pakistan’s Embassy in Thailand said on its social media account, inviting potential bidders to attend the roadshow.

Prospective participants are encouraged to submit international competitive bids with two separate envelopes for technical and financial proposals. The project sites are located within the secure Tarbela-Barotha Complex, which is owned by the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).

Experts have already conducted studies on the environmental and social impacts of the floating solar plants, deeming them manageable. According to a preliminary assessment, approximately 10% of the surface area of 14 reservoirs can accommodate around 6 GW of floating solar installations.

The project would also help kick-start Pakistan’s floating solar sub-sector, technology transfer, promoting experience, and skill development to decrease costs and scale up deployment.
