OKARA: In a tragic incident on Sunday, at least seven people lost their lives in a road crash near Akhtarabad in the Southwest Okara district of Pakistan’s Punjab province.
The accident occurred between a passenger coach and a car, with the speeding coach crushing the smaller vehicle.
The bodies were taken to a nearby hospital, and the identities of the deceased could not be ascertained at the time of reporting.
Earlier on Saturday, another accident took place in Dunyapur, a city in the Lodhran District of Punjab, where a trailer crashed into roadside huts in the Kahror area.
The trailer had skidded off the road due to over speeding, resulting in the death of seven people and injuring four others.
The dead and injured were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital, and according to rescue sources, four children and two women were among the deceased.
Road safety measures in Pakistan
The incidents have once again highlighted the need for road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
Reckless driving and over speeding remain major causes of accidents in the country, resulting in a high number of fatalities every year. Authorities must take immediate action to prevent such tragedies and ensure the safety of all road users.
