RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and Iran have agreed to embark a new journey to strengthen their bilateral relations, as outlined in the Beijing Agreement signed last March.
The Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and his Iranian’s counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdullahian announced the new chapter of bilateral collaboration, driven by shared interests and mutual respect, in a joint press conference held at the Saudi Foreign Ministry in Riyadh.
The Saudi Foreign Minister, expressed the Kingdom’s earnest desire to elevate bilateral ties with Iran. Prince Faisal underlined the importance of reinstating diplomatic missions and ambassadors in each other’s capitals, viewing this as an essential step towards fostering stronger relations. Saudi FM said that this pivotal gesture marks the continuation of diplomatic reengagement and a cornerstone for regional security.
He said that both countries shared a common sentiment of sincerity and determination to realize the Beijing agreement’s provisions that stand to benefit both nations. The mutual objectives include fortifying trust, expanding cooperation, and reinforcing regional stability. The Saudi FM emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment to revisiting prior agreements with Iran, especially in the fields of security and the economy. The significance of ongoing consultation and coordination between the foreign ministries of both countries was underscored.
Iran President visit Ro Riyadh
He said that Riyadh is looking forward to the visit of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Saudi Arabia, following an invitation from Saudi King Salman.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian termed his talks with his Saudi counterpart as “fruitful.” Recognizing the pivotal roles both nations play in the region, Amir-Abdollahian stressed their determination to expand relations across all fields.
Amir-Abdollahian expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s assistance to Iranian pilgrims during the Hajj pilgrimage and expressed optimism for the resumption of Umrah. He unveiled President Raisi’s acceptance of the invitation to visit Saudi Arabia at the appropriate time, noting that the ongoing exchanges between the countries would lay the groundwork for this momentous encounter.
