RIYADH: Riyadh Metro has reached a historic milestone after being officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s longest fully driverless train network, spanning 176 kilometres, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.

The achievement underscores the Kingdom’s rapid strides in building modern, sustainable public transportation.

The metro — part of the capital’s public-transport programme — now runs across six integrated lines and serves 85 stations, all operating via cutting-edge driverless technology managed from advanced central control rooms to ensure precise, safe, and efficient operations.

As a core component of Riyadh’s urban mobility strategy, the Metro — together with the city’s bus network — supports Riyadh’s economic, environmental, social, and urban development.

It enhances accessibility for all residents and helps relieve traffic congestion, while contributing to a greener, more connected city for the future.

This achievement highlights the efforts of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City in adopting smart and sustainable urban transport concepts, and its commitment to innovation and development in establishing modern infrastructure that enhances the quality of life in the capital and supports the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
