ISLAMABAD: The popular motor-bike service initiative, which had been lauded for its low fares and quick service, is facing backlash from commuters as most service providers have left the online service applications and starting providing private services with high fares.
Talking to APP, a frequent bike-traveler Noman Shakoor expressed his dismay with the new development saying that bike service had become a favorite for solo commuters due to its affordable fares and safety measures, but the high fares charged by private bikers had become a concern.
He said that the online application services provided a sense of security as they had tracking, and contact information of the bikers, but the new trend of bike service providers who are leaving the online apps and starting private services with high fares had become a matter of concern for travelers.
Another traveler, Fayyaz gave the example of yellow taxis that were no longer seen on the roads of capital Islamabad because they did not use the meter system and asked for high fares. He said that if the bike servicemen repeat the same mistake, their service will be utterly perished.
Bike service provider’s response
Younas Hameed, a bike service provider in the twin cities, explained that due to the recent price hike in petrol prices, every rider tried to earn a good amount in the evening. He said that there were more chances of negotiations with private bike service providers, and bikers did not have to travel to pick up the commuter, which saved them money. – APP
