LONDON: King Charles, who celebrated his 75th birthday last year on November 14th, will have his official birthday plans disclosed by the Ministry of Defence in June this year, amidst his cancer treatment.
The Sovereign’s official birthday, marked by the ceremony of Trooping the Colour, is scheduled for Saturday, June 15th, 2024, this year. This tradition, believed to have originated during the reign of King Charles II, has been used since 1748 to commemorate the official birthday of the Sovereign, becoming an annual event after King George III’s reign began in 1760.
The upcoming ceremony will feature the Trooping of the Colour by the Number 9 Company Irish Guards, with over 1350 soldiers from the Household Division and King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, including more than 300 musicians from the Massed Bands, participating. Additionally, 250 soldiers from the Foot Guards will line the processional route along The Mall for the Trooping the Colour, which will be reviewed by the King.
