Americans are displeased with President Joe Biden’s handling of immigration and inflation, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos survey, and his approval rating has dropped to 40% in recent days.
By the end of the three-day survey on Sunday, 41% of respondents said they approved of Biden’s work as president, a slight improvement from last month. The survey has a 3-point margin of error.
High inflation and efforts by central bankers to rein in prices by increasing interest rates have kept the economy at the top of respondents’ minds.
Concern has also been raised over the imminent expiration of COVID-19 restrictions on Thursday, which have prevented many foreigners from getting into the United States to claim asylum. In anticipation of the policy’s expiration, long lineups of migrants have formed this week in the Mexican border city of Tijuana.
According to a Reuters/Ipsos survey, 54% of people are against increasing the annual quota for foreign nationals allowed into the country. This includes 77% of Republicans and 34% of Democrats.
Just 26% of respondents were happy with how Biden has handled immigration.
Sixty-six percent of those polled are in favor of deploying active-duty U.S. soldiers to the border to aid Border Patrol officers.
