ISLAMABAD: Pakistani workers who have completed their employment in South Korea may be missing out on significant insurance benefits. The Pakistan Employment Permit System (EPS) Center, under the leadership of Director Kim Ki-wook, is assisting these workers in recovering unclaimed insurance funds. However, many are still unaware of how to access these benefits.
The EPS Center is providing guidance to workers who have returned to Pakistan after their employment in South Korea under the Employment Permit System (E9). According to the Korean embassy, numerous workers who have reached their maximum stay of four years and ten months have yet to claim their entitled ‘departure guarantee insurance’ and ‘return cost insurance.’
These unclaimed benefits, known as “dormant insurance,” remain with the insurer if not claimed within three years of the payment reason arising. Many workers are eligible for these funds related to their departure and return expenses.
To address this issue, the EPS Center is actively reaching out to returning workers, but the process is complicated by changes in contact information or relocations of many individuals. To facilitate claims, the EPS Center has teamed up with the Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) in Pakistan. They have published a list of eligible workers on the OEC website.
Eligible workers are encouraged to check their status on the OEC homepage. If they qualify, they can apply for their benefits by sending the required documents via registered mail to the Pakistan EPS Center.
Additionally, workers who have recently returned from South Korea and have not yet applied for their insurance benefits can contact Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance directly. Detailed instructions and the necessary documents can be found on the OEC website.
The EPS Center’s initiative aims to ensure that returning workers do not forfeit the insurance funds they are rightfully entitled to. Workers are advised to act swiftly and verify their eligibility on the OEC website to claim their benefits.
