WASHINGTON: After a brief pause over the Thanksgiving weekend coinciding with a temporary Israel-Hamas ceasefire, attacks on bases housing American troops in Iraq and Syria have resumed.
According to Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh, there have been a total of 78 recorded attacks, with five occurring since November 29, marking the end of the Israel-Hamas truce.
Singh emphasized the importance of the recent 24-hour period without attacks but expressed uncertainty about whether the frequency would return to the levels seen between October 17 and November 22. The total number of injuries from these attacks has remained at 66 since late November, although it’s unclear how many of these incidents involved traumatic brain injuries.
Singh refrained from predicting future attacks but highlighted the deliberate and effective responses when the U.S. forces decided to retaliate. Since October, three preplanned targeted strikes on facilities in Syria aimed at destroying weapons used by militias have taken place.
The Pentagon confirmed that immediate actions have been taken in response to attacks, including the use of air assets to strike a vehicle in Iraq as it fled following an attack.
