Reports on Universal Health Coverage and Power Division Issues Presented in Senate

ISLAMABAD: Two reports from different standing committees were presented in the Senate on Tuesday, focusing on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, and the Power Division.

Senator Fawzia Arshad, representing Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti, Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Health Services, presented the committee’s report on the Universal Health Coverage Bill, 2024.

In a similar vein, the leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Senator Shibli Faraz, on behalf of Senator Mohsin Aziz, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Power, presented a report addressing issues related to faulty meter readings, over-billing of electricity bills, and inappropriate behavior by LESCO officers towards complainants and consumers.

Moreover, Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, presented the Annual Report for the Financial Year 2023-24 from the Board of Directors of the State Bank of Pakistan on the state of the country’s economy. This was done on behalf of Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Finance and Revenue, as mandated by sub-section (2) of section 39 of the State Bank of Pakistan Act, 1956.

Rana Tanveer Hussain also laid before the Senate the Governor’s Annual Report for the Financial Year 2023-24, which details the Bank’s achievements, monetary policy conduct, and the overall state of the economy and financial system, in accordance with sub-section (1) of section 39 of the State Bank of Pakistan Act, 1956.
