ISLAMABAD: Fans across Pakistan observed the 13th death anniversary of renowned Urdu poet and Naat Khwan Muzaffar Warsi on Sunday.
Warsi also a prominent critic, essayist, lyricist and scholar was born on December 23, 1933 in Meerut, British India, as Mohammad Muzaffar ud din Siddiqu. He used his pen name ‘Warsi’ making his name Muzaffar Warsi.
He initially wrote lyrics for songs for Pakistani movies but later changed direction of his poetry and started writing Hamd and Naats. He was one of the few distinguished voices and one of the most prominent poets of the country.
His unique style and range of themes made him prominent among the poets of his age. Muzaffar Warsi’s naat “Ya Rahmatulil Alameen” would always be remembered among people.

The government of Pakistan awarded him pride of performance award in 1988 in recognition to his services to Urdu literature.
He also used to write for Urdu newspapers. Muzaffar Warsi passed away on January 28, 2011 in Lahore.
