JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia: The iconic Burj Khalifa is set to lose its title as the tallest building around the globe to the ambitious Jeddah Tower, also known as Kingdom Tower, currently under construction in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah.
The construction of the tower would be of a monumental significance in the world of architecture. This wonder in the making is expected to shadow the Burj Khalifa by rising up to over 1,000 meters and also redefining the global skyline.
Burj Khalifa, standing tall in Dubai at 828 meters, claimed the title of world tallest building in 2010 and has held onto it for over a decade.
However, the Guinness World Records has now confirmed that the Jeddah Tower, with an anticipated height exceeding 1,000 meters (1 km; 3,281 ft), is set to snatch the crown upon completion.
Being developed by the Jeddah Economic Company, this architectural masterpiece goes beyond mere height, offering a multifaceted complex that includes luxury residences, serviced apartments, office spaces, and upscale houses.
One of the standout features of the tower is the promise of hosting the world’s highest observatory.
The Jeddah Tower, with an estimated cost of $1.23 billion, is part of a huge $20 billion mega-project in north Jeddah.
After a five-year hiatus, construction resumed in 2023, leaving the world architectural landscape abuzz with anticipation. The completion date remains undisclosed, intensifying the excitement surrounding its unveiling.
