AL-MUKALLA: The UK Maritime Trade Operations have cautioned vessels commuting in the Red Sea after suspected Houthi strike at a ship near Yemen’s Hodeidah coast.

The incident comes as Yemen’s Houthi militia vowed to continue attacking ships crossing Bab Al-Mandab Strait the Red Sea, during the holy month of Ramadan.

UKMTO, in a statement said there were reports of an explosion in the vicinity of the vessel and the coalition forces were investigating the matter.

Another UK maritime organization, Ambrey, said it had received some information about a suspected missile attack near Yemen’s Red Sea port city of Hodeidah.

The Houthis had not claimed responsibility for fresh strikes on ships in the Red Sea, although they often issue statements hours after each attack.

Since November, the Houthis have seized a commercial vessel and carried out hundreds of missiles, drones, and remotely controlled bomb attacks at commercial and naval ships in international waters near Yemen’s coast.

The group claims its actions are in support of Palestine and in retaliation to US and UK attacks on Yemeni areas under Houthi control.

The Houthis say their strikes are aimed to push Israel to let humanitarian assistance, such as water, food, and medicine, into the besieged Gaza Strip in Palestine.

Earlier Speaking to his supporters, Houthi leader Abdul Malik Al-Houthi said they would continue to attack on international ships, during Ramadan until Israel stops its war in Gaza.
