Records of Winter Heat Broken Across Europe

ISLAMABAD: In a number of countries across Europe, temperatures for January have reached the highest ever recorded.

In eight countries, the national records have been smashed, while in three others the regional records.

In Spain’s Bilbao at 25.1 C the temperature while Warsaw, Poland was 18.9 C. In both instances, the temperatures were 10 C higher than average.

Meanwhile, North America faces is facing extreme storms, just days after a deadly winter cold wave that left over 60 dead.

In parts of America’s northern Midwest, freezing rain and heavy snow has been forecast, while in Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma tornadoes and thunderstorms are expected.

However, in Europe balmy conditions have upended the weather pattern for the start of the year.

Temperatures in Liechtenstein, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Latvia, Denmark, Czech Republic, Poland, and Belarus have broken national records.

In Ukraine, Germany and France weather station records have been broken.

In Spain, temperatures on New Year’s Day in Bilbao were equal to that of the average in July while parts of Catalonia, including Barcelona, were being subjected to water-use restrictions.
