ISLAMABAD: In the latest ICC ODI rankings released on Wednesday, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and Ibrahim Zadran have made significant strides, but Pakistan’s Babar Azam remains firmly placed among the top players in world cricket.
Rashid Khan has been crowned the No. 1 ODI bowler, a position he has now claimed for the third time in his career after a stellar performance in Afghanistan’s 3-0 whitewash of Bangladesh in their recent ODI series.
Rashid’s exceptional 11-wicket haul in the series propelled him past South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj, reclaiming the top spot for the leg-spinner. Rashid first reached the No.1 ranking in 2018 and again in 2024, solidifying his place as one of the world’s premier bowlers.
In other notable developments, Ibrahim Zadran, Afghanistan’s explosive opening batter, made a meteoric rise in the ODI batting rankings. Zadran, who was the top scorer in the recent series against Bangladesh with 213 runs, climbed from 10th to second place.
With 764 rating points, Zadran is now only 20 points behind Shubman Gill of India, with the gap closing rapidly. Zadran’s impressive form has earned him a career-best ranking, putting him on the brink of the coveted No.1 spot in ODI batting.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Babar Azam, the world-class batter and captain, remains a fixture in the top 5 of the ICC ODI rankings. Azam has held the 4th position in the rankings with 739 rating points, showcasing his consistent performances on the international stage.
Babar is just 25 points behind India’s Virat Kohli in 5th, and his spot at the top remains well-earned through his ability to consistently deliver in pressure situations.
The captain’s steady form continues to make him a key figure in world cricket, as Pakistan looks to make an impact in the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle.
