ISLAMABAD: A rare total lunar eclipse, known as a “Blood Moon,” will be visible across Pakistan from the night of September 7 into the early hours of September 8, 2025, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), this will be the only eclipse visible from Pakistan this year.

Out of the four eclipses in 2025, two solar and two lunar, only this one will be seen from within the country.

Earlier in the year, a total lunar eclipse in March and a partial solar eclipse later that month were visible in other parts of the world, including Europe, the Americas, and Africa.

Another partial solar eclipse is expected on September 21, but it will not be visible in Pakistan.

The upcoming lunar eclipse is expected to last several hours, giving skywatchers plenty of time to enjoy the sight.

During the eclipse, the moon will turn a reddish colour, which is why it’s called a Blood Moon. Experts explain that this happens because Earth’s atmosphere filters sunlight, letting only the red part of the light reach the moon.

The PMD has encouraged people across Pakistan to take this rare opportunity to observe the event. The department said that detailed viewing times for different cities will be announced closer to the date.

So, if the sky is clear, don’t forget to look up on the night of September 7, a spectacular Blood Moon will be waiting to shine over Pakistan.
