MELBOURNE: A 31-year-old man was arrested in Melbourne after allegedly carrying out three separate random stabbing attacks over a three-hour period, causing injuries to four people.
The incidents occurred between 10 pm on January 6 and 12:30 am on January 7 in the city’s inner suburbs. Authorities have ruled out terrorism as a motive. The suspect faces charges, including 14 assault offenses and possession of a controlled weapon. The victims, aged 24 to 31, suffered injuries ranging from non-life-threatening to life-threatening.

Police, who recovered a backpack with “multiple edged weapons” during the arrest, are investigating a potential link to a fourth stabbing earlier on January 6. The attacks were described as “completely random,” with the suspect showing signs of mental health issues, drug use, or alcohol consumption.
