LAHORE: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Wednesday claimed that Chaudhry Parvez Elahi would not remain Punjab’s chief minister after Governor Punjab passed the new declaration.

Talking to a private television channel, Rana Sanaullah said that Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman would pass the declaration at 4 pm after which Elahi will be removed as chief minister.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader said that the governor of Punjab could also request the prime minister to impose governor rule.

Responding to a question regarding the latest audio leak of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, the minister said that the audio is a “reality.”

“Videos of Imran Khan are also available, and their content is the same as the audio,” Sanaullah.

Speaking to a private television channel, Sanaullah said that the governor had asked CM Elahi to take a vote of confidence as per the Constitution. He said that the governor had called a meeting at 4 pm today for the vote of confidence.

If the vote of confidence is not taken by 4 pm, then the chief minister will not hold office according to the Constitution. “If the resistance continues, the governor can be asked to impose governor rule.

He said that Hamza Shahbaz is the candidate for the CM Punjab post; however, the party will decide.

The interior minister also said that CM Punjab Perviz Elahi would not get any relief from the court, adding that the speaker’s ruling is useless. He said that the PTI is not dissolving the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly.

Vote of confidence against CM Punjab

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Fawad Chaudhry, while speaking to the media persons, said that the governor should refrain from taking unconstitutional measures.

Fawad said as per the Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibtain Khan’s ruling, the vote of confidence cannot be held today. “The process of the no-confidence motion will start on Friday and will be completed by next week,” he added.

The PTI leader said that the assemblies would be dissolved after the no-trust move fails, adding that both assemblies would be dissolved simultaneously and not separately.

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday warned Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman to “refrain from any adventures” as he asserted that CM Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi would not be seeking a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly today.

On Tuesday, Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibtain Khan had termed the governor’s orders “illegal, against the provisions of the Constitution and thus stood disposed of.”

In his two-page ruling, the speaker maintained that the governor’s orders were not in accordance with Article 54(3) and Article 127. “The house has been in session since Oct 23, 2022, under Articles 54(3) and 127. No new session can be convened unless and until the current one ends,” the order read.

On the other hand, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the PTI could not “resist” the Constitution.

In a tweet, he said the rules stated that the chief minister would cease to hold office if he did not seek a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly. He further noted that it was up to the governor to decide when to order the chief minister to seek a vote of confidence.
