ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Friday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran khan’s life was under threat and urged the former prime minister to postpone his long march.

While speaking at a press conference, Rana Sana said that intelligence agencies have issued a red alert over PTI’s rally and have warned of a potential terrorist activity amid the procession.

He said that any terrorist organization could try to benefit from PTI’s gathering in Rawalpindi (by carrying out a terrorist attack).

Security measures during PTI rally

He said that he had apprised IG Punjab police and Chief Secretary Punjab about the intelligence reports and directed them to undertake adequate security measures during PTI’s rally.

He added that PTI’s long march was not meant to achieve actual freedom, but instead aimed at spreading hatred.

The minister further said that if the PTI chief wants a date for early elections, then the only way forward was through having a dialogue with political parties.

Imran urged to negotiate with ruling alliance, Nawaz

He urged Khan to hold talks with leaders of the current government alliance, including Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) chief Nawaz Sharif, for which the minister said he would also help the PTI chief.

Rana Sana further said that Khan should stop seeking the date for early elections from the establishment as they would not help him in this regard.

The minister added that he only viewed the PTI chief as a political opponent and not an enemy.

PTI’s long march is expected to reach Rawalpindi, a city adjacent to the federal capital Islamabad, on November 26.
