ISLAMABAD: The prevailing severe heatwave conditions, which have affected large parts of Pakistan in recent days, are expected to subside as Pakistan Met Office has forecast gusty winds and rain in the northern and central areas of Pakistan from Friday (today) to Monday.

Pakistan National Emergencies Operation Center of the National Disaster Management Authority has also issued an impact-based weather advisory from Friday to Monday.

Radio Pakistan cited a statement of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) as saying in Punjab, hot weather is likely to persist throughout the week.

However, the Potohar region and upper Punjab, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, may experience cloudy conditions, scattered rainfall, and windstorms from tomorrow to Monday.

Scattered rain

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, mostly hot conditions are predicted, but scattered rain and windstorms are likely in several districts.

Sindh and Balochistan are to remain predominantly hot and dry throughout the advisory period.

In Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, hot weather will prevail, although areas such as Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Shigar, Bagh, and Neelum Valley may receive isolated rainfall from 13th to 16th of this month.

Earlier on Thursday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a spell of duststorms and rain-thundershowers with occasional gaps in upper and central parts of the country from June 13-16.

According to the Met Office, moist currents were currently penetrating the upper parts of the country, while a westerly wave was also likely to approach the region on June 13.

“Relief to residents”

Under the influence of these weather systems, duststorms and rain-thundershowers, accompanied by isolated hailstorms, are expected in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, and Abbottabad from June 13-16 with occasional gaps, the Met Office said.

According to the website of PMD, it has warned that windstorms, dust-thunderstorms, hailstorms, and lightning may cause damage to loose structures such as electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels, particularly in the upper and central parts of the country including Islamabad.

The prevailing severe heatwave conditions, which have affected large parts of the country in recent days, are expected to subside during the forecast period, bringing much-needed relief to residents.

The farmers have been advised to manage their crop activities keeping in view the anticipated weather conditions.

“Alert”

The general public, travelers, and tourists have been strongly advised to take precautionary measures to ensure safety during this spell of weather activity.

The PMD has also urged all concerned authorities to remain “alert” and take all necessary measures to avoid any untoward situation during the forecast period.
