KEY POINTS
- India posted a solid 97/1 in 9.4 overs before rain halted the match
- Shubman Gill (37*) and Suryakumar Yadav (39*) starred with the bat as India made a strong start
CANBERRA, Australia: The first T20I between Australia and India in Canberra on Wednesday ended in frustration as rain interrupted the match, leading to no result.
India, batting first after the toss, made a solid start under challenging conditions, reaching a total of 97/1 in 9.4 overs. Openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill got off to a quick start.
Sharma, who had been looking promising, was dismissed for 19 runs off 14 balls by Nathan Ellis in the 4th over.
Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 37 off 20 balls and Suryakumar Yadav played a quick-fire knock of 39* off 24 balls.
Rain Interrupts the Game
As India looked to accelerate in the latter half of their innings, the weather played spoilsport.
Despite a solid foundation, rain halted the match with the score at 97/1 in 9.4 overs, well short of the 18 overs allocated. Unfortunately, the weather did not improve, and the match was declared a no-result.
Australia’s Bowling
Australia’s bowlers, including Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Ellis, were tidy with their line and length. Hazlewood was the most economical, finishing with figures of 3-0-24-0.
Ellis took the lone wicket, dismissing Abhishek Sharma. Xavier Bartlett and Marcus Stoinis also bowled tight spells, but no bowler could make a breakthrough to halt India’s progress.
