LEH, India: In a recent interaction with youth in the Leh district of the Ladakh region in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, Rahul Gandhi, a senior leader of the Indian National Congress, raised concerns over what he perceives as attempts by the extremist Hindu organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to exert influence over India’s constitutional institutions.
Gandhi pointed out that India, following its independence, established a range of vital institutions through its Constitution, including the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, Planning Commission, and Armed Forces, which have played pivotal roles in shaping the nation. However, he expressed his apprehension about the current state of affairs, claiming that the RSS is making concerted efforts to place its own members within key organizational bodies.
“The RSS appears to be wielding considerable influence even over the functioning of various Ministries,” noted Gandhi. Drawing attention to the situation, he highlighted instances where government officials have reportedly indicated that they feel obligated to follow directives from the RSS. This assertion raises concerns about the organization’s potential involvement in the decision-making processes of critical governmental bodies.
