ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s celebrated singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has made his debut in Bengali music with a duet that has already captivated audiences across South Asia.

The new track, titled “Tumi Amar Prem Piyasha” (You Are My Love), features Rahat alongside Bangladeshi vocalist Rubayyat Jahan.

Written by Bengali lyricist Kabir Bakul and composed by Indian-Bengali music director Raja Kaasheff, the song blends soulful poetry with Rahat’s signature qawwali-inspired style.

The video, shot in London, also features the maestro himself.

Cross-border collaboration

Speaking about the project, Rubayyat Jahan said the experience was one of the highlights of her career.

“It feels as if I have touched the moon. This is undoubtedly one of the greatest achievements of my life,” she said in a statement.

Raja Kaasheff, who has previously worked with legends such as Asha Bhosle and Adnan Sami, told Geo News that Rahat’s Bengali performance left a deep impression.

“His precious singing has created a remarkable impact on me and music lovers alike,” Kaasheff said.

Jahan said that Rahat wrote the Bengali lyrics in Urdu script to perfect his delivery, a detail that has impressed many of his listeners.

Warm reception from fans

The song was released on September 2 through Dhruba Music Station’s YouTube channel.

Within hours, it garnered thousands of views, with listeners praising Rahat’s flawless pronunciation and emotional rendition.

Fans have highlighted specific lines such as “Ele tumi moner gobire, janbe tumar ami ke” (“Come, you will know who I am in your heart”), noting that Rahat sounded like a seasoned Bengali singer.

Milestone for South Asian music

This collaboration is being celebrated as a cultural milestone, bringing together Pakistan’s qawwali tradition and Bangladesh’s rich musical heritage.

“Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has mesmerised audiences in Urdu and Punjabi for decades. His foray into Bengali music shows how art can transcend borders,” Kaasheff told Geo News.

For Rubayyat Jahan, singing alongside the Pakistani maestro was more than a professional achievement. “It was a great honour,” she said, adding that the duet reflects the shared cultural bonds of South Asia.

With the release of “Tumi Amar Prem Piyasha”, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has once again demonstrated his ability to bridge languages and traditions, strengthening musical ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
