Qatar Expresses Serious Concerns over Taliban’s Ban on Female Workers

ISLAMABAD/DOHA: Qatar has expressed serious concern over the decision of Taliban to stop female employees from working, after banning females to get higher education from universities.

Qatar has urged the Taliban to review its decision of banning women from working and education, said a statement issued by the foreign ministry of Qatar.

The foreign ministry said that Qatar stresses Afghanistan for the need to respect and acknowledge the rights of women to work. Qatar said that the Taliban should acknowledge the freedom to choose and accept work as a basic human right.

Earlier, Qatar hosted a representative office of the Taliban during the US-led war in Afghanistan and served as a base for peace talks with the US and the Taliban in 2021.

OIC concerns about the female ban

Earlier, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General Hussain Ibrahim Taha, expresses his concern and denunciation of the Taliban ban on women getting a higher education and called it a worrisome decision.

The OIC stated in its statement that the move by the Taliban was even more disappointing for the OIC and the world at large.

Previously, the OIC Secretary General and its special envoy for Afghanistan warned the Taliban against taking such a decision.
