DOHA: Qatar and the United States on Sunday discussed the latest developments in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, the Amiri Diwan, the main seat of government in Qatar, in a statement said.
According to the statement the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received a phone call from US President Joe Biden and discussed the latest situation in Gaza.

It said that during the call they also discussed the strategic ties between the two friendly countries, in addition to the most important regional and international matters of common concern.
During the call, President Biden expressed his thanks and gratitude to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his diplomatic efforts towards the situation in Gaza and Doha’s positive and effective role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.
Qatar Amir stresses immediate ceasefire
The Amir during the call stressed the necessity of an immediate ceasefire, to stop the bloodshed, protect the civilians in Gaza, and permanent opening of the Rafah crossing.
He called to ensure the sustainable flow of relief convoys and humanitarian aid to for the Palestinian brethren besieged in the Gaza Strip.
The Amir also emphasized the continuous diplomatic efforts of Qatar to reduce the escalation, including its efforts to release the hostages and open the Rafah crossing to foreigners and relief aid, praising the role of the United States in that context.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Saturday held a telephonic conservation with Qatar Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thanion to discuss efforts to evacuate critically injured people from Gaza and increase humanitarian aid into the territory.
Earlier amidst reports that Gaza’s largest hospital has come under Israeli forces’ brutal attack, senior UN officials on Sunday strongly condemned the Israeli forces’ attacks on Gaza’s hospitals and said that there can be no justification for any “acts of war” in or around any healthcare facilities.
The latest figures from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) indicate a grim toll, with more than 11,078 Palestinians killed and over 26,900 injured in Gaza since the attacks started on October 7.
