TASHKENT: The State of Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is on an official visit to Uzbekistan, witnessed the award ceremony for the 7th edition of the Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence (ACE) Award.
The ceremony, held at the convention center in Tashkent on Tuesday, was graced by the presence of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
During the event, both the Emir and President Mirziyoyev watched a documentary film chronicling the history of the award from its inception to the current edition. They also viewed a film showcasing the challenges faced by competitors and winners in various fields related to combating corruption and promoting transparency.
Qatar Emir Distributes Awards
Subsequently, the Emir and President Mirziyoyev presented awards in different categories. Dr. Suncana Roksandic and Dr. Jon S.T. Quah received the Academic Research and Education Award, while the Youth Creativity and Engagement Award went to the All4Integrity organization and Damaris Aswa.
Clare Rewcastle Brown and Phil Mason were honored with the Innovation/Investigative Journalism Award, and the Safeguarding Sports from Corruption Award was presented to Shantanu Guha Rai and Waihiga Mwaura. Jose Ugaz received the Lifetime/Outstanding Achievement Award.
In his speech, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the award winners and expressed admiration for those overseeing the event. Speeches were also delivered by Alexandre Zouev, the Assistant Secretary-General for Rule of Law and Security Institutions in the Department of Peace Operations at the United Nations (OROLSI) in New York, and Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri, the UN Special Advocate on the Prevention of Corruption.
Earlier, Qatar Emir and President Mirziyoyev unveiled the monument for the 7th edition of the award in Tashkent City Park.
The ceremony was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying the Emir, several Uzbekistan ministers, members of the high-level committee and the assessment advisory board of the award, past award winners, senior officials, and other distinguished guests.
