DOHA, Qatar: Qatar has recognised medical fellowships awarded by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), a move expected to significantly ease licensing and employment procedures for Pakistani doctors and surgeons seeking to work in the Gulf country.

This landmark decision will streamline the process for Pakistani doctors and surgeons to obtain medical licences and seek employment in the Gulf country.

The Pakistani Embassy in Qatar announced the decision, stating it followed a comprehensive review by Qatari authorities of the educational standards and competencies of CPSP’s training programs.

The recognition applies to both the First Fellowship (FCPS) and the Second Fellowship (FCPS-II) of the CPSP, with the condition for the latter that doctors must have completed the corresponding First Fellowship in their primary specialty.

Exemption from exam speeds up process

A significant benefit of this recognition is the exemption from the Prometric examination for CPSP fellows.

This exam is typically a mandatory step for foreign medical professionals seeking a licence in Qatar.

The exemption is expected to significantly reduce administrative hurdles and expedite the licensing process, allowing qualified Pakistani doctors to begin practice faster.

Expanding opportunities and strengthening ties

Officials highlighted that the move will substantially expand career and employment opportunities for Pakistan’s experienced medical professionals in Qatar’s healthcare sector.

The decision is also being hailed as a milestone in bilateral medical cooperation, reinforcing the international credibility and rigour of CPSP’s postgraduate training programs.
