WASHINGTON: A US official has warned North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that his country would pay a price for providing weapons to Russia in war against Ukraine, western media reported on Tuesday.

US national security adviser Jake Sullivan talking to reporters at the White House said that supplying weapons to Russia is not a good omen and the country has to face consequences in this regard.

The Kremlin earlier refused to comment on the statements by US officials that Korean leader would visit Russia this month to meet President Vladimir Putin to discuss weapons supplies to Moscow.

Sullivan expressing his views said Kim expects talks about weapons to continue, at the leader level or even in person.

US squeezes Russia’s defense industrial base

He added that US and its allies have squeezed Russia’s defense industrial base and now Moscow is looking for other options.

The US official said North Korea must abide by its public commitments not to supply arms to Russia that will lead to Ukrainian killing.

US National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson on Monday claimed Kim and Putin could meet in near future.
