KAZAN, Russia: At the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed deep concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East, warning that the region was on the brink of a full-scale war.

According  to Arab media Putin highlighted that military actions, initially centered in Gaza, have now expanded to Lebanon and affected other regional countries.

He noted the increased confrontation between Israel and Iran, comparing the situation to a “chain reaction” that threatens the entire Middle East.

Putin stressed that lasting peace in the region would only be achieved through the creation of an independent Palestinian state, citing the two-state solution as endorsed by the United Nations.

He argued that resolving the Palestinian issue is key to ending the ongoing cycle of violence and called it a necessary step to correct historical injustices against the Palestinian people.

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas also attended the summit, adding weight to the discussion.
