MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia is ready to provide all possible help to ease the suffering of Gaza’s civilian population and help de-escalate the crisis, Arab media reported on Sunday. Russia says that an international monitoring mission must go to the Gaza Strip to monitor the humanitarian situation.

Moscow Calls for International Monitors in Gaza

President Putin reaffirmed the principle stance of rejecting and denouncing violence in all its shapes and forms and said that nothing can justify the killing of civilian population in the Gaza Strip. Moscow backed a UNSC resolution for a Gaza truce that was vetoed by the US on Friday.

Earlier, several attempts to adopt a resolution calling for a permanent truce were vetoed. The UN said around 80 percent of the population of Gaza has been displaced, facing shortages of fuel, food, medicine, and water along with the threat of disease.

Similarly, the UNGA in October approved a resolution — 121 votes in support, 14 against and 44 abstentions — asking for “an immediate, long term and sustained humanitarian ceasefire leading to a cessation of hostilities.”

Meanwhile, the Gaza health ministry spokesperson stated on Sunday 18,000 Palestinian people have been killed and 49,500 wounded in Israeli assaults on the Gaza Strip since October 7. The spokesperson, Ashraf Al-Qidra, said that the count included 297 people killed and over 550 injured in the last 24 hours.
