MOSCOW: A high-level meeting in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff, accompanied by Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner, concluded after nearly five hours, Russian officials said Wednesday.
Kirill Dmitriev, Putin’s envoy who attended the talks, described the discussions as “productive” in a post on X, sharing a photo from inside the Kremlin meeting. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov called the talks “constructive, very useful, and informative,” noting that the five-hour session “thoroughly” explored elements of a possible settlement.
Ushakov stated that while “there is no compromise plan for Ukraine yet,” Moscow has found certain U.S. proposals acceptable, while rejecting others. He added that Putin told the delegation Russia “could agree to some aspects of the U.S. plan, but others were criticized.”
Moscow, he revealed, has received “four more documents” in addition to Trump’s original 28-point proposal, confirming that territorial issues were part of the dialogue. There was no immediate statement from the White House.
Axios reported that Witkoff and Kushner are expected to brief Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Europe later Wednesday. The U.S. plan—initially comprising 28 points—has reportedly been narrowed in recent consultations with Kyiv, with the focus now shifting to defining a de facto border under a potential ceasefire.
