Putin to Hold Crucial Talks with Xi Jinping in Beijing in October

MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to make an official visit to Beijing in October to hold extensive talks with China’s President Xi Jinping, Mr. Nikolai Patrushev, the Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, said on Tuesday.

Mr. Patrushev disclosed the upcoming high-level meeting during a meeting held in Moscow with China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi. The talks are expected to be a pivotal moment in the ongoing alliance between Russia and China, both powerful nations with significant global influence.

In his statement, Mr. Patrushev said, “In October, we look forward to thorough bilateral talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.” The significance of this meeting cannot be overstated, as it is expected to address a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including economic cooperation, regional security, and global diplomacy.

Putin to Attend Forum on Belt and Road Initiative

During his visit to Beijing, President Putin will also participate in a forum centered on China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). This initiative, often referred to as the “New Silk Road,” is a comprehensive infrastructure and economic development project aimed at enhancing connectivity between Asia, Europe, and Africa.

The announcement of Putin’s visit comes at a time when both Russia and China are seeking to strengthen their strategic partnership. This partnership, often described as a “comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination,” has evolved significantly in recent years, with both countries cooperating on a multitude of fronts, including energy, technology, and international politics.
