MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin is reaching out to Arab and Israeli leaders on Monday in an attempt to quell rising concerns about Israel’s offensive in Gaza potentially triggering a broader conflict in the region.

This move comes amid fears for the safety of innocent Palestinians trapped in the heavily bombarded Gaza enclave, where Israel is preparing for a ground offensive.

Putin’s Diplomatic Efforts to Resolve Conflict

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed Putin’s diplomatic efforts, stating that the Russian President has already held discussions with the Presidents of Syria and Iran. Ushakov further revealed that Putin is scheduled to make additional phone calls to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu throughout the day.

Russia has persistently called for talks to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The situation has strained Russia’s relations with its long-time partner Israel.

Iran has warned that an invasion of Gaza would trigger a significant response, raising concerns of a wider conflict drawing in multiple countries. Amid its own challenges, including a prolonged conflict in Ukraine, Russia has consistently advocated for a ceasefire and offered itself as a mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
