Putin Felicitates Iran’s New President, Hopes for Closer Relations

MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Iran’s reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian on his win in a presidential runoff, the Kremlin said in a statement on Saturday.

In a statement, the Russian leader said, “I express hope that your tenure as president of Iran will contribute to a reinforcement of constructive bilateral cooperation between our friendly nations and peoples,”.

The two sides, the target of stiff Western sanctions, can “coordinate efforts to address global issues in a constructive way,” he added.

Saudi Leadership, Iran’s New President,

Iran’s reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday won a runoff presidential election against ultraconservative Saeed Jalili, Iranian media reported.  Pezeshkian won the election by securing 16,384,403 of the votes while his opponent Saeed Jalili, managed to secure 13,538,179 of the votes, according to an announcement made by Mohsen Eslami, spokesperson for Iran’s election headquarters.

In first round, Pezeshkian, who was the only reformist permitted to stand, won the largest number of votes, about 42 percent, while Saeed Jalili came second with about 39 percent, Iran’s elections authority said.

World leaders Chinese President Xi Jinping also congratulated Masoud Pezeshkian for his win in Iran’s presidential runoff election. State news agency Xinhua cited Chinese leader as saying that he will work with the new President to lead the China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership towards deeper advancement.
