ISLAMABAD: Russian President Vladimir Putin has appreciated that cooperation between Russia and Pakistan is expanding in diverse sectors, including trade, commerce, and industry.
According to a press release issued by the Pakistan Embassy in Moscow on Thursday, the Russian leader expressed these views during a meeting with Pakistan’s Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi at the Grand Kremlin Palace, where he came to formally present his credentials.
The envoy conveyed greetings and best wishes of the President, the Prime Minister, and the people of Pakistan to President Putin.
President Putin, while terming Pakistan a close partner of Russia, noted with appreciation that cooperation between the two countries was expanding, especially in the fields of trade, diplomacy, commerce, education, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, railways, industry, health, and IT.
In recent years, Russia and Pakistan have engaged in strengthening bilateral ties with each other.
Last year in September, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation between their countries across various sectors.
The meeting between the two leaders took place in Beijing amid their visit to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of States (CHS) summit.
In July 2025, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk described Islamabad and Moscow as “natural allies.”
Earlier, on June 3, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Prime Minister’s aide Syed Tariq Fatemi and reaffirmed Russia’s intention to deepen cooperation with Pakistan.
Pakistan and Russia relations have significantly improved, evolving into a multi-dimensional strategic partnership focused on defence, energy, and regional stability, especially through the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), where both are members.
