Punjab Wildlife Department Recovers Rare Snow Leopard Skin

LAHORE: The Wildlife Department of the government of Punjab on Friday recovered a rare snow leopard skin during a successful operation to protect endangered wildlife and took the suspect involved in this criminal activity under custody.

The worth of the snow leopard’s skin is US $20,000, approximately Rs 5.6 million.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb appreciated the Wildlife Department and police teams for their prompt action and reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy on wildlife law violations. She stressed the importance of wildlife and forest conservation in fighting climate change.

The arrested individual was involved in the illegal trade of skins of the endangered animals on social media. Punjab is now enforcing strict wildlife protection laws and has started digital mapping of forests and wildlife under directives of CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
