Punjab Sports Minister Discuss Asia Cup Security with PCB Chairman

LAHORE: Wahab Riaz, Advisor to the Punjab Chief Minister (CM) on Sports, met with Zaka Ashraf, the Head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, to discuss security arrangements for the upcoming 16th edition of the Asia Cup. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 27.

During the initial phase, Lahore and Multan Cricket stadiums will serve as hosts for all four matches, while the remaining nine matches will take place in Sri Lanka. The opening match is slated for Multan, featuring Pakistan against Nepal.

Asia Cup Matches to be Played in Two Phases 

The remaining three matches are slated for Lahore, with one being a part of the Super Four round. The other Super Four matches are scheduled to occur in Sri Lanka.

During the meeting, the Punjab Government offered a categorical assurance to the PCB, guaranteeing comprehensive security measures for all participating teams during the mega tournament.

Representatives from the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) were also present at the meeting. They reassured that sanitation facilities would be managed throughout the Asia Cup event.

Afghanistan’s cricket team is also slated to engage in two matches in Lahore. These include matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, further enhancing the excitement of the Asia Cup.

Earlier on Saturday, Punjab Home Department had approved the deployment of Pakistan Army and Rangers personnel to provide security during the championship.
