RAWALPINDI: The Punjab police on Tuesday withdrew the security of Lal Haveli in Rawalpindi, the residence of chief Awami Muslim League (AML), Sheikh Rasheed.
The Punjab police personnel deployed at the Lal Haveli were removed from their duty. The special squad of police on duty outside the residence of ex-interior minister Sheikh Rasheed was also withdrawn.
Lal Haveli
Lal Haveli is a historic haveli located in Rawalpindi, also the political office for the Pakistani politician Sheikh Rashid Ahmad. The haveli was built by Dhan Raj Sehgal who left for India leaving the Haveli to his mistress Budhan Bai and thence it is said to have been the abode of that woman before the independence of Pakistan.
According to Punjab police, these police personnel used to be on shift duties at the Sheikh Rasheed residence. The reasons behind the removal of security from Haveli are still not clear.
The Punjab police tightened the security of Haveli, the residence of chief Sheikh Rasheed, following the threat call for the ex-interior minister. The police have apprised the ex-interior minister’s nephew Rashid Shafiq of the ‘threat call’ and tightened the police security of his residence, Lal Haveli.
Rashid said that a case of threatening call was registered at Civil Lines police station in Rawalpindi. The police have launched an investigation into the matter.
