Punjab Health Minister Stresses Regular Check-ups for Women to Combat Breast Cancer

LAHORE: Pakistan’s Punjab Health Minister Professor Dr. Javed Akram has underscored the importance of regular medical check-ups for women aged 40 and above to combat the increasing rate of breast cancer in Pakistan.

Speaking at an awareness seminar held at the University of Home Economics, Dr. Akram highlighted the global significance of World Breastfeeding Week and stressed the need to educate young girls about breast cancer prevention for their long-term health. He expressed concern, revealing that 9 out of every 100 women in Pakistan are currently battling breast cancer.

The seminar, organized in reference to World Breastfeeding Week, received praise from Dr. Javed Akram, who commended the university’s efforts in raising awareness.

Prominent figures in healthcare and academia, including Vice Chancellor of the University of Home Economics Dr. Faleha Zahra Kazmi, DG Health Services Dr. Ilyas Gondal, and Registrar Shujaat Munif, along with numerous teachers and students, participated in the seminar. The event emphasized the critical role of awareness and regular screenings in the fight against breast cancer in Pakistan.
