LAHORE: The Punjab government has made the decision to lift the ban on the use of the Avastin injection, which had been previously linked to cases of blurry vision among patients in the province.

The injection was swiftly banned in Punjab following reports of the vision-related issues.

To ascertain the safety of the injection, the Punjab Health Department sent six samples to the Drug Testing Lab in Lahore and two samples to the Drug Testing Lab in Karachi. After thorough quality, safety, and chemical tests at these laboratories, the sources have revealed that the Avastin injection has been declared safe for use.

Following a high-level meeting of the Punjab Quality Control Board, the caretaker government in Punjab has suspended the recall notices for Avastin injection and approved the release of four batches into the market. Among the batches deemed safe for use, three are of Avastin 100 mg, and one is of 400 mg. It’s noteworthy that the Drug Testing Lab in Lahore has also cleared four batches of Avastin injection as safe.

The Punjab Drug Control Directorate has issued guidance to distributors, wholesalers, and retailers to adhere to established protocols when handling the Avastin injection. Additionally, doctors have been directed to follow these protocols when administering the injection to patients, ensuring safe and appropriate usage.
