LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled a significant initiative aimed at supporting the province’s journalists, announcing plans to allocate plots to 3,200 media professionals as part of the Lahore Phase 2 Journalist Colony project.
This move underscores the government’s recognition of journalists’ contributions and rights, with Nawaz asserting that the allocation process will prioritize merit and compliance with legal requirements. The Punjab Information Ministry will issue an official advertisement inviting applications from journalists, extending beyond the Lahore Press Club.
In addition to the support for journalists, CM Nawaz has actively engaged with minority communities in Punjab. At a recent event, she distributed checks to over 1,400 Hindu families, aiding their festive celebrations. Her initiatives for minority support include introducing special identity cards and creating virtual police stations to address grievances effectively. These steps reflect a broader commitment to fostering inclusivity and enhancing the welfare of minority communities in the region.
The Chief Minister has also launched agricultural initiatives, such as the “Kisaan Card” program aimed at assisting farmers by streamlining access to resources and benefits. Furthermore, the “Green Tractor Scheme,” which has garnered 1.5 million applications, aims to subsidize the cost of tractors for farmers, alongside plans to solarize tube wells to reduce electricity costs for agricultural producers.
Amidst these developments, CM Nawaz has implemented a “green lockdown” in Lahore to combat severe smog, collaborating with Indian authorities for cross-border environmental cooperation. This initiative comes as Lahore grapples with critical air quality issues, ranking among the world’s most polluted cities. The government’s multifaceted approach addresses immediate concerns while fostering long-term development and support for diverse communities across Punjab.
