Punjab Dismisses Notification Asking Employees to Post Patriotic Tweets as Fake

RAWALPINDI: The government of Punjab has dismissed media reports that it asked the public relations team to post ‘patriotic’ tweets after a notification went viral showing that the Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR) had asked its employees to do so.

The Public Relations Department of Punjab has denied all the accusations that the viral notification urging all DGPR officers to create their Twitter accounts other than with their own or office names. Ir said that some elements want to fulfill their nefarious purposes under its guise.

According to the local media, the government of Punjab announced on its official Twitter handle that a letter from the Public Relations Department of Punjab is circulating on social media, which is completely fake in its text and structure. The tweet further added that the department has nothing to do with this fake office order. Some elements want to fulfill their nefarious purposes under its guise. It said that there is no official stamp on this fake letter.

Recently, a notification from the department in question got viral on social media, earning the ire of a number of tweeps. The notification read that the competent authority has directed all DGPR officers posted at HQs offices, Divisions, and districts to create their accounts on tweeter with tweeter IDs other than their own office names.

Various Twitter users and journalists reshared the document, coming down hard on the government to create Twitter propaganda by using state machinery.

However, the many spelling inconsistencies along with other errors in the dates written in the notification are glaring mistakes. Moreover, the document carries no stamp from the relevant bodies.
