LAHORE: The caretaker government of Punjab has imposed section 144 in Lahore following Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan announced the rally to start his election drive, local media reported on Saturday.
Provincial caretaker Minister for Information Amir Mir told the media person during a press conference that section 144 has been imposed in the city for Sunday. The Minister said that it has been prohibited to hold any rally in Lahore today.

The minister in a late-night press conference asked Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan that he (Imran Khan) should avoid any rally for the day. The minister said that the writ of state should not be challenged, saying that in case of violation, Section 144 could be extended.
The minister added that there was a match of Pakistan Super League (PSL-8) in the city and a marathon rally was also scheduled on Sunday. He said that it was decided to impose Section 144 in the city due to current circumstances in Lahore.
The caretaker minister further said that they had conveyed the message to the leadership of PTI not to stage the rally tomorrow.
Earlier, PTI chief Imran Khan had announced that he would lead his party rally in person on Sunday at 2 pm in Lahore. In a televised address, the former prime minister invited the PTI workers and supporters to prepare for tomorrow’s rally in the city. Imran Khan said that he would lead the rally tomorrow so that the coalition parties know the actual number of people standing by his side.
