  • PML-N lawmaker Rukhsana Kausar submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly calling for a nationwide ban on beard styling
  • The resolution demands strict legal penalties for individuals and barbers involved in designing beards

LAHORE, Pakistan: A Pakistani lawmaker has submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly calling for a nationwide ban on the styling or designing of beards, arguing that such practices violate Islamic teachings and disrespect religious tradition.

The resolution, tabled by Rukhsana Kausar of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), describes the beard as a sacred Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and condemns beard styling as an affront to Islamic identity.

The resolution emphasised that altering beard’s natural form through fashionable designs is a serious violation of Islamic principles. The resolution accuses beard styling of disrespecting deeply rooted religious traditions.

Rukhsana Kausar’s resolution calls on the federal government to enact strict laws to eradicate this trend.

It proposes imposing legal penalties not only on individuals who style their beards but also on barbers and salons that facilitate such practices.

Arguing for the preservation of religious norms, Kausar warned that without decisive action, Islamic traditions risk being diluted or distorted under the guise of modern fashion.

This latest plea resonates with an earlier resolution she submitted in July 2020, underscoring her persistent campaign against what she views as an affront to Islamic identity and values.
