RAWALPINDI: In connection with “International Dance Day”, a colorful ceremony was organized at the Punjab Arts Council on Monday, where different types of traditional and modern dances were performed.
Director of Arts Council Waqar Ahmed and Naheed Manzoor were the chief guests of the program, while Saeed Anwar conducted the hosting.
Speaking on the occasion, Naheed Manzoor said that the aim of celebrating the special day was to promote various types of dances and save different nations’ cultural heritage.
She said that dance had been a key element in human culture for centuries and has a unique place in performing arts.
Naheed said that in almost every culture of the world, dancing was used to express happiness and excitement and is called the poetry of the organs.
Naheed informed the audience that various dances were performed in Pakistan, including Sindhi, Balochi, and Punjabi Bhangra, while folk and classical dances also have a special place in the country’s arts.
In his address, Waqar Ahmed also highlighted the importance of dance and said that folk dance has great importance in Pakistan.
He said that all regions of Pakistan have their own local traditional dances that reflect their cultures.
He added that dance is the tradition of Baba Bullay Shah, while Moen Jo Daro’s statue of the dancing girl also reflected its old traditions.
Punjab Arts Council strives to promote dance
He said PAC had always tried to promote the performing arts, and today’s event was linked.
The audience enjoyed the performance of Dhol, kathak, bhangra, simi, classical, and sufi dance and appreciated the dance bands heartily.
Several showbiz celebrities from theatre and television participated in the ceremony, including Asma Butt, Afzal Latifi, Arshad Masood Minhas, Anjum Khabibi, , Syed Salim Effendi, Arshad Khan, Sapna Shah, Suleiman Sunny, Saeed Anwar, Imran Rushdie, Liaquat Shah, Anjum Abbasi, Rahat Ahmed Khan and others.
