ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad court on Saturday granted pre-arrest bail to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi in a case related to May 9 vandalism.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Islamabad Syed Haroon Ahmed heard the case against PTI’s stalwart at Khanna police station here as Qureshi and his council Ali Bukhari appeared before the court.
During the proceedings, the counsel argued that Qureshi believes in rule of law and supremacy of the constitution. He told the court that the PTI leader was not present at the crime scene and had not made any incriminating statements.
The lawyer further stated that the police implicated Qureshi without any concrete evidence. Pleading to the court to confirm Qureshi’s bail, the defence counsel maintained that his client had full faith in the judicial system and was willing to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.
After considering the arguments put forth by Ali Bukhari representing Qureshi, the court accepted the bail plea and granted pre-arrest bail to the vice chairman of the former ruling party.
