ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) wing dealing with anti-terrorism has registered a case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan for allegedly ‘losing’ the copy of US Cipher.

The PTI chairman had blamed the US State Department which, according to him, encouraged the Pakistani government in a March 7, 2022 meeting to remove Imran Khan as prime minister over his neutrality on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The classified document was obtained by the American-based website ‘The Intercept’ a few days back which created a storm at the national front.

It is pertinent to note that the American website Intercept, a few days ago, revealed the contents of the Cipher. The coded secret document was sent to Islamabad from Washington.

The meeting, between Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Asad Majeed and State Department official Donald Lu came under scrutiny.

A Joint Interrogation Team has been formed to probe the matter. The JIT had asked the PTI chairman for recording his statement in the Cipher Scandal.

It is pertinent to note that former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his farewell address accused the PTI Chairman of using the Cipher for his political gains.

Shehbaz Sharif also alleged that the Cipher was a big conspiracy hatched against Pakistan. The former prime minister at present is in Attock Jail and facing cases that now number near 200 in total.
