ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday demanded the immediate dismissal of chief secretaries of two provinces, Punjab and Sindh as well as the police heads of both the provinces for allegedly assisting in robbing the mandate of the people.
According to the party’s central media department, the senior leadership of the party has sought the removal of these four officials as, according to them, they have played a criminal role in tarnishing democracy and promoting lawlessness in their provinces.
The party leadership wanted these four officials to be held “sternly accountable” for their “actions”.
The demand came after Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaqat Ali Chattha alleged that the winning candidates in the Feb 8 elections were made to lose constituencies under his watch.
Earlier in the day, the PTI staged protest rallies in various cities of the country including Islamabad and Lahore against alleged manipulation of the results of the recently held general.
In Lahore, the police launched a crackdown on the rally and arrested dozens of protesters including PTI-backed independent candidate for NA-128 lawyer Salman Akram Raja as well as several women.
Raja said he stood with the people of Pakistan as the police dragged him into the towards their vehicle. However, Raja was later set free.
Men, women and a large number of youngsters participated in the protest rallies.
In Islamabad, the rally was led by PTI’s Sher Afzal Marwat. The rally started from F-9 Park and culminated outside the National Press Club.
